Pop open the Champagne and get those strawberries ready for the cream – The Suffolk Coast is getting ready to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday in style!
While the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will be joined by no fewer than 10,000 guests for a huge street party near Buckingham Palace lined with picnic tables and union flags, the folk in Suffolk are not to be outdone!
Towns and villages all over the county are preparing festivities for 11th and 12th June and finding their own unique way of saying ‘many happy returns Your Majesty’! Local communities are taking the opportunity to enjoy a happy and sociable day which will create wonderful memories for generations to come…
The folks in Thorpeness are encouraging us to create the longest table for their Royal Afternoon Tea Party at Thorpeness Country Club on Sunday 12th June. The event is taking place in the beautiful grounds of the Club with the support of the Dolphin Inn to make a truly British afternoon tea party in honour of our much loved Monarch. And, if it’s your 90th birthday in 2016 you can get in touch with the organisers to receive a complimentary invite to the event!
Festivities, including food and entertainment start from 2pm with tickets at £30 adults and £15 under 12’s. Contact email@example.com for information.
On the same day, in nearby Snape, you’re requested to come dressed in red, white and blue for their Royal Tea Party. Just bring a plate of savoury or sweet food – strawberries and cream will be provided along with a grand raffle and prizes. Tickets are free from the village shop and include a raffle entry or free ice-cream for children. Get in touch with firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
Travelling up the coast to the pretty parish of Walberswick, they are planning a Picnic on the Green, complete with a live jazz band, competitions and activities galore.
It’s safe to say that people all over The Suffolk Coast are gathering together in their communities this weekend not only to wish our Sovereign a very happy 90th birthday but also simply to celebrate being British!
