The opening stage of the 2016 Aviva Women’s Tour starts in Southwold before wending its way through our beautiful Suffolk Coast countryside.
This is the third year that the race has returned to Suffolk, with the riders rolling out from Southwold, home of principal stage partners Adnams.
There are few seaside towns as quintessentially British as Southwold. With its sandy beach and beach hut lined promenade, it offers a wonderful environment for holidays, weekends away and days out, as well as a thriving market town atmosphere. All of this makes it a fitting starting point for this prestigious cycling event.
After leaving Southwold the race heads towards the firstQueen of the Mountain stage at Halesworth before heading to Lowestoft throughWesthall, Shadingfield, Hulver and Mutford.
A brief visit to Lowestoft’s seafront and then it’s off to Beccles with a sprint section, then Bungay before crossing into Norfolk andmaking its way to the Stage 1 finish in Norwich.
Take a look at the route here…

Seeing a cycle tour come through is quite a spectacle. Police outriders making sure route is clear plus motorcycle marshals, the cyclists hurtling past, loads of team cars, an ambulance and more police motorcycles…
It’s a fantastic opportunity to see this great event as it speeds through the delightful Suffolk Coast countryside.
