Following the announcement earlier in November that Aldeburgh Music and Snape Maltings have become a single organisation, the newly rebranded Snape Maltings shows off the breadth of its offerings this December with a site-wide festive weekend.
Snape Maltings Christmas Weekend (Friday 16th – Sunday 18th December)
For Christmas Weekend the site is taken over by an abundance of festive events and activities for all the family.
Handel’s Messiah on Friday 16th December opens the weekend, performed by Aldeburgh Voices, Fellows of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain and the Suffolk Ensemble.
On Saturday 17th December you are invited to join resident choirs to sing carols and popular festive songs in Sing Christmas at Snape Maltings Concert Hall at 1.30pm.
In time honoured tradition, Father Christmas sails into Snape Maltings by Thames barge (approx. 3.15pm), followed by the opportunity for children to meet him in the House & Garden shop.
The acclaimed BBC Big Band returns to Snape for a fun-filled programme of festive favourites with a twist of swing at 7.30pm.
The weekend concludes with two film screenings, featuring live choir and orchestra, of the Christmas classic The Snowman (Sunday, 2pm and 4pm) in a double bill with the film premiere with composer Howard Blake’s new piece for children, The Land of Counterpane.
The weekend will also offer families a host of free events and activities, including a Snowman Trail across the site, festive craft making at the Concert Hall Café, carol singing and a pop chorus performance in the House & Garden shop. Plus have a go at conducting a brass band!
