Family Summer Holidays Start Here!

We dream of warm, long summer days all winter. So now that it’s finally here let’s not waste a minute of it!

At last that summer break or day trip with the family has finally arrived and you can be sure we’re all geared up on the Suffolk Coast to make sure you have the best time ever…

It goes without saying that we have some of the best beaches in the world on this coast so you’d be missing out if you didn’t venture over to where the sand meets sea at least once! Go armed with buckets and spades for the kids, a picnic and plenty of sun cream (the sun’s strength can be deceiving when there’s a sea breeze). The best thing is, it won’t cost a penny unless you’re tempted to splash out on some ice-creams to keep you cool!

If you visit the award winning Blue Flag Beach in Lowestoft it’s worth checking out all the family entertainment on offer at the Claremont Pier… Roller skating, amusements, plus some lovely eateries including Nemos – famous for its mouth-watering fish and chips!

‘That’s the way to do it!’ - Southwold has a couple of new characters taking up residency on the famous pier this summer – It’s Punch and Judy! This traditional seaside duo is guaranteed to keep the whole family entertained and, once again it’s completely free!

After the excitement of watching Mr Punch and Co, head over to the Southwold Boating Lake and Tearooms to refresh and unwind with a lovely cuppa and homemade cake. You can watch while the kids have fun on the peddle boats or crazy golf.

Whether you dare to take on the ‘Wipe Out’ ride or prefer to cruise around on the Carousel, Pleasurewood Hills makes a super day out for everyone. Pay just once for a full day out of rides shows and attractions. There’s a choice of places to eat and recharge the batteries or there are plenty of places to spread a picnic out in a shady spot.

Fancy a walk on the wild side? Africa Alive in Kessingland near Lowestoft is just the place! Discover lions, giraffes, rhinos, cheetahs, cape hunting dogs and many more animals and birds from the African continent. There are various shows and special events happening throughout the summer here and makes a perfect day out for young and old.

If your family loves messing about on the water we have just the thing – Southwold Surf School. Surfwold offers children and adult surf lessons of all levels of skills and fitness on Southwold beach. The surf instructors thrive on offering lessons which are tailor made for all levels of skill and fitness.

Alternatively the calmer waters of the Broads National Park at Oulton Broad give a great opportunity to take out a day boat. Discover some of Suffolk’s beautiful countryside only visible from the water. You don’t need to be an experienced skipper as full instructions will be given – Buy dad a Captain’s hat in the local gift shop for the total effect!

And, now for a bit of history. Discover the story of the Anglo-Saxons at the burial ground of kings at Sutton Hoo in Woodbridge, the site of the country's most significant archaeological discovery. In 1939 an excavation revealed the Anglo-Saxon ship burial of a great king with all his extraordinary treasures, and revolutionised our understanding of the Dark Ages!

For those loving the bygone age of transport, head over to the East Anglia Transport Museum near Lowestoft. A day for some to reminisce and others to be fascinated with working trams and trolley buses from yesteryear!
