With the school holidays fast approaching, we've put together a few ideas for great family days out on The Suffolk Coast this summer...
This coming weekend you’re spoilt for choice with child-friendly events, with the Suffolk Steampunk Spectacular!
at the Long Shop Museum
and the Heveningham Hall Country Fair with Wings and Wheels
. At the Steampunk, mini inventors can explore the gadgets and machines, listen to stories and take a ride on a steam engine, whilst at Wings and Wheels, they can marvel at the Eagle Heights Falconry Display and a medieval jousting stunt show!
A firm family-favourite destination, there’s a host of child-friendly events being held throughout the summer in the seaside town of Lowestoft.
Starting this weekend with the launch of the Turtle Trail,
where you and the children can hunt down the elaborately painted model reptiles and meet a Ninja Turtle too! Throughout the summer there will also be sandcastle building competitions, a procession, beach sports and car rally (further information can be found at www.discoverlowestoft.co.uk
Later in the month, join the Suffolk Wildlife Trust
Promenade for wildlife themed games and activities and join in the sandcastle competition
before taking a trip to Southwold Boating Lake and Cafe
for a round of crazy golf and a go on the paddle boats.
Staying at the Boating Lake, on the 3rd of August, Peter Pan, Tinkerbelle and Captain Hook will be visiting for 'Adventures in Neverland'
where children can join the characters in finding the hidden treasure, before making wands and swords. And continuing with the pirate theme, Treasure Island
will be performed at Landguard Fort in Felixstowe
on the 2nd of August. Whilst there, you can explore the magnificent Landguard Fort
and learn about the history of defending our coast.
For young animal lovers, why not head to Africa Alive
and meet natives of the African savannah including lions, giraffes, rhinos and lemurs. Children will love taking a trip around the park on the train and running around in The Wild Zone (whilst grown-ups can enjoy a well-earned cup of coffee in the café!)
And for thrill seekers, a day out at Pleasurewood Hills
is guaranteed to ramp up the summer fun excitement! With family rides including the Pirate Ship, Wave Breaker, Go Karts, Carousel, Miniature Railway, Log Flume and Rattle Snake, and kiddie rides including the Mini Twister and Car Safari there’s so much to choose from at the region’s largest theme park. If you’d rather stay on still ground, there are also plenty of shows to watch including the Wild West Stunt Show, the Parrot Show and the famous Sea Lion Show!
Of course you needn't spend any money, a day at one of our award-winning beaches
is a great way to enjoy the great British summer too!
