In Da Cottage
The Suffolk Coast has a myriad of quirky independent businesses, from award-winning village shops to ancient hotels that rank among the best in the world. Included in this category is In Da Cottage, an antique and furniture shop that provides its visitors with a very unique experience.
Located on Crown and Anchor Lane in the historic market town of Framlingham, home to a famous 12th century castle, In Da Cottage is run by two men with very diverse but equally passionate collecting habits. Richard Atkinson is a 20th century antiques dealer with a penchant for unique and unusual pieces, while Rob Wyn Yates is an interior designer.
This magic combination of interests and talents has made In Da Cottage into one of the most interesting antique shops around. Rather than opting for a cramped High Street shop, Richard and Rob chose Framligham’s Old Fire Station as the setting for their collection. This charming, timber-framed building dates back to the 18th century, and imbues the antiques with added character. The collection is displayed artistically throughout the rooms of the Old Fire Station, giving visitors the sense that they are wandering through somebody’s house and allowing them to stumble upon items in unexpected places.
The collection itself is large and highly eclectic, ranging from retro wall tapestries to vintage ice buckets and even nineteenth-century scientific equipment. From the smallest item to the largest, there is something for everyone in the collector’s paradise.
