It's Ice Cream Time!

In the summer time when the weather is hot... Whether it’s Tutti-Frutti, Rum and Raisin or simply good old Vanilla flavour, a summer’s Day on the Suffolk Coast is not really complete without an ice cream! Let’s face it, here in the UK we have to make the most of the warm weather and there is nothing quite so nice as indulging in this icy treat in order to tickle the taste buds and cool ourselves down…

So we’ve checked out some of the very best places to buy ice creams from here on the Suffolk Coast (it’s a tough job – but someone has to do it!)

There’s nothing better than an ice cream on the prom or beach, so we start our journey at a really quaint little coffee shop in the coastal town of Lowestoft - The Coconut Loft. Here, you might been torn between the choice of strolling along the beach with your mint choc chip or staying inside to admire some of the work from local artists. However, if you’re sunning yourself on the golden sands of Lowestoft beach, you might want to dash over to The South Pier for your ‘99’ – The challenge here is to skilfully consume your ice on the way back before it melts!

Spend a lazy day picnicking by the river at Beccles quay side. There’s a wonderful open grassed area here for the kids to burn off some energy while you watch the boats drift by. Make sure you stop by the Beccles Quay Café for one of their delicious ice creams before you leave – Their customers say that these cones are really creamy and excellent value for money too.

If decision making is not your thing then a trip to Ives Ice Cream Parlour and Coffee Bar in Aldeburgh might not be a good idea… This family run business has more than 30 different flavours of ice creams and sorbets on offer, served in best quality Italian or waffle cones - There’s even a gluten free option available!

‘Beaches and Cream’ located in the quintessential seaside town of Southwold are hoping for a long hot summer this year as are ‘The Little Ice Cream Company’ in Felixstowe. Both make their ices from locally sourced ingredients with the latter using fresh milk from Felixstowe’s dairy herd at Adam’s Farm.

Celebrate summer on this year…Eat ice cream and chill!
