Make Fathers Day special on The Suffolk Coast

With Fathers day fast approaching you may well have plans to treat Dad to a restful day and let him relax with his feet up for an hour or two... Alternatively, you can shake things up a bit and do something quite different – Take him for a day out that he’ll remember long after the cans of beer and chocolate bars have been consumed!

In fact, if your father is rather partial to a pint then take it to the next level and spoil him with an Adnams Brewery Tour! The tours are run daily in Southwold where your tour guide will explain the beer making process from start to finish, looking at the choice of ingredients and how beers are made. Tours last around 1 hour followed by a beer tasting session. Dad even gets a bottle of the brew to take home! There are also distillery tours on offer too, but it’s important to note that both of these activities are strictly for over 18’s only.

beaconIf the need for speed fuels Dad’s excitement, then look no further the Ellough Park Raceway near the Suffolk market town of Beccles. Here you’ll find a purpose built, flood-lit karting circuit. Try a 15 minute taster session for starters and print out the lap times so you can improve on the next one. Drivers must be 8 years or over and a minimum of 4’6’’ in height. All safety equipment is provided as well as a full briefing for new drivers. Alternatively, if you are located a bit further south, Beacon Valley Carts have 3 tracks to suit all ages, from their mini track for ages 5-6 through to the Grand Prix track for racers aged 10+.

For an automobile experience of a slightly slower nature, head off to East Anglia Transport Museum in Carlton Colville, near Lowestoft - A fabulous day out for all the family where visitors can appreciate the development of mechanical transport over the best part of a century. Dad will enjoy taking a journey back in time by travelling on a few of the museum’s exhibits where an authentic street from bygone years has been recreated.

Step back in time even further and embark on an historical journey of discovery around the magnificent walls of Framlingham Castle. If your Dad is your ‘knight in shining armour’ this day out will be perfect! The castle was home to some of the most powerful people in Tudor England where it has stood for more than 800 years. Take in the exciting exhibition and audio tour before stopping for a picnic and a game of knights and princesses on the lawns!

Landguard-Fort-architecture-2Maybe it’s just the simple things in life that your Father appreciates the most, in which case he’ll love nothing better than messing around in the water at Walberswick. One of the major summer attractions here is crabbing by the harbour and you’ll find the bridges and river banks are crammed with buckets and lines! Walberswick is also home to some pretty tea rooms, restaurants, pubs and an art gallery not to mention ‘The Fish Hut’, one of the most highly acclaimed Fish and Chip shops on the Suffolk Coast!

It doesn't matter how old you are, its always fun to explore a fort, and at Landguard Fort in Felixstowe you and your Dad can do just that. Owned by English Heritage, it's open daily from 10am to 4pm with adult entry just £4 and a child's entry just £1.50 making it a cost effective day out for the family.

The Suffolk Coast has something to suit everyone – so get planning and make Father’s Day extra special this year!
