The Cake Shop Bakery is Expanding!

Due to the growing demand for the delicious baked goods on offer, the Cake Shop Bakery in Woodbridge is expanding!

Growing demand for real bread and delicious cakes and pastries in their Woodbridge shop has led family-run, Cake Shop Bakery, to open a new bakery facility to increase production by 20% to keep up with demand and grow the business.

David Wright, the third generation, of the family to run the business, says “We are particularly keen to grow the wholesale side of the business providing bread and cakes for retailers including farm shops and delis as well as hospitality businesses in Suffolk. We have been limited in our capacity to supply other businesses until now, and we’re excited that the new site will enable us to grow.”

The new bakery at Bentwaters Business Park, north of Woodbridge, started baking on Monday 12 June, after a major fit out and investment in new equipment including a specialist oven which significantly increases their capacity. David says “Our first day baking at Bentwaters was like everyone’s first day! It’s been challenging for me and all our experienced bakers to get used to the new equipment and space but we are quickly getting into routine and will soon be reaping the benefits of the bigger space.”

The original bakery behind the shop on the Thoroughfare in the town centre will still be used everyday. The expansion has created two new jobs at Bentwaters Park and three in Woodbridge and the family business expects to take on more new staff to add their current team of 30.

The move is also expected to relieve traffic pressure in Woodbridge town centre as all deliveries to and from the bakery will now go straight to Bentwaters.

The Wright family made the decision to invest in new facilities in October 2016 with the objective of growing the business. The first challenge was to find a suitable location. During the move the bakery did not lose one day of production meaning customers saw no disruption to supplies.

David Wright says he has been inspired by the business coaching he has received from entrepreneur, Suffolk-based Stephen Unwin, founder of Cawston Press. The business has been supported in their investment by Lloyds Bank and has used many local firms in the refit of the facilities including Steve Smith Electrical CN Plumbing. The design and fit-out of the new bakery has been supported by Somerset-based, Brook Food Processing.
