The Crown And Castle, Orford

There are few places better on The Suffolk Coast to enjoy the blue skies and sunshine than Orford, a small fishing village known for its bounty of excellent local food and peaceful atmosphere. At the heart of Orford you’ll find The Crown and Castle, a cosy inn where good food is the foundation of the business. Part of the reason for this is that Ruth Watson, one of the three joint owners of the Crown and Castle, is a dedicated foodie, an award-winning food writer and author of several culinary books. She’s also the executive chef, meaning her passion for food is transferred directly into the Crown and Castle’s menu.

The Crown and Castle is renowned for its relaxed, comfortable atmosphere, which allows guests to enjoy their surroundings and feel free to take their time. Orford itself has a lot to explore, including a 12th century castle, smokehouses, oysterages and bakeries. You can take a trip aboard the Lady Florence River Cruise Restaurant or visit RSPB Havergate Island, which is teeming with rare and beautiful wildlife. Alternatively, there is Rendlesham Forest to explore, with its many acres of woodland to explore. At the nearby towns of Snape and Aldeburgh you can experience some of The Suffolk Coast’s best markets, music, shopping and even what some have claimed to be the world’s best fish and chips!
