Woodbridge has always been a beautiful place to visit, but is now seeking to put itself firmly on the map by becoming the first accredited Walkers are Welcome town in Suffolk.
The national accreditation scheme supports its members to provide information on routes, develop and maintain its footpaths and promote the social and health benefits that walking offers. However, to become accredited, Woodbridge needs your help! If you think this is a good idea, pledge your support now by signing the petition at the Suffolk Coastal Customer Services Desk at Woodbridge Library or emailing the Town Clerk at firstname.lastname@example.org Signatures are needed by the end of September!
This campaign is being run by a small steering group, which has been nurtured by Discover Suffolk and supported by Woodbridge Town Council, Suffolk Coastal District Council and Choose Woodbridge. The group are seeking more community and business members who are passionate about walking and want to get involved in achieving the accreditation. If this is you, put your best foot forward and contact the Town Clerk at the above email.
Keith Dowse, from the Rotary Club of Woodbridge, said: “This is an excellent scheme to bring the community together. Not only will it encourage people to get more active and explore our lovely town, but businesses can really benefit by promoting themselves to walkers in a range of ways.”
Finally, if you want to get really stuck in, come and volunteer for the Footprints Volunteer Days, which are run by the Countryside Team at Suffolk Coastal Norse.
Pauline Hammond, from the Ipswich and District Ramblers, already a Footprints Volunteer, said, “it's great fun as we get hot and dirty, sometimes wet, working in our beautiful Suffolk countryside but it's also very sociable as there's always time to laugh and chat; there's definitely a sense of achievement, I really feel I am doing something worthwhile. I am supporting Woodbridge’s bid to gain Walkers are Welcome accreditation as I think it will be really beneficial to the town; as an enthusiastic rambler anything that promotes walking is good in my book!”
