The Crown and Castle is renowned for a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere that allows guests to enjoy their surroundings and feel free to take their time.
Winner of *Sawday's British Hotel Award 2017 for Fabulous Food*
There are few places better on The Suffolk Coast to enjoy the blue skies and sunshine than Orford, a small fishing village known for its bounty of excellent local food and peaceful atmosphere.
There is a lot to explore, including Orford’s fine 12th century castle, the strangely beautiful Orford Ness, nearby Rendlesham Forest and RSPB Havergate Island, which is teeming with rare and beautiful wildlife. In the village itself there is Pinney’s traditional smokehouse and the brilliant artisan Pump Street Bakery.
Good food is at the heart of the Crown and Castle. Part of the reason is that co-proprietor and executive chef, Ruth Watson, is a food writer (two Glenfiddich awards) and the author of three cookery books. Her near obsession with good, honest food feeds directly into all the menus.
The restaurant has a relaxed but lively ambience. Most importantly, it neither looks nor feels like a typical hotel restaurant. With 2 AA rosettes and good write-ups in all the major guides, guests often cite the food as a major reason for staying there. The wine list has also won many plaudits in the guides, not least for the reasonable pricing structure.
