International Boatbuilding Training College (IBTC)

IBTC in Lowestoft offers a variety of boatbuilding/maintenance and woodworking courses suitable for those looking for a career in the maritime industry as well as individuals wanting to develop existing or new interests and skills.

With courses from 1 day to almost a year there is something to offer everyone; from owners and enthusiasts to prospective tradespersons.

IBTC is proud to offer a wide range of joinery and boat building courses including shorter courses exploring additional woodworking skills and maritime crafts.

No experience necessary for any of the courses, so whether you would like to:

Originally set up in 1975 to train workers for the boatyards of Norfolk and Suffolk, IBTC's graduates go on to manage yards all over the world. Internationally recognised, their 47 week course is City & Guilds approved.

Although a college, due to the way in which training is provided, the overall atmosphere is of a working boatyard offering a complete 'hands on' experience to all those who attend, vital for those looking to a career in boat building. And there is a working commercial boat yard alongside the college.
