Guide to Suffolk Walking Festival

The annual Suffolk Walking Festival kicks off on 13th May and runs until 4th June. Whether you're a seasoned rambler or a family looking to explore, there's a walk or event for you!

We've put together a few of our favourite walks, from family walks to challenge walks...

Family Walks

Orwell River Walk with Jimmy's Farm - 27th May 2017

Time: 10.30am

Start location: Jimmy's Farm, IP9 2AP

Distance: 6 miles

Enjoy a walk along the River Orwell through local farmland and woodland. Tickets are £6 for adults and £4 for children, and you can take advantage of discounted entry to the farm.

A Walk in the Park - Nicholas Everitt Park - 30th May 2017

Time: 10am

Start location: Nicholas Everitt Park, Oulton Broad NR32 3LN

Distance: 1 mile

Children will love joining in with the Golden Mile Walk from Nicholas Everitt Park in Oulton Broad, finishing at Lowestoft Museum. There will be family-friendly events on offer at both locations and it's free to join in!

Historic Wickham Market - 17th May 2017

Time: 2pm

Start location: The Hill, Wickham Market IP13 0RA

Distance: 2 miles

Join this guided walk around the pretty village of Wickham Market with stops at locations which used to be shops plus information and photos from your guide. Tickets are £4 for adults, children aged 7-17 £2 and under 7s free.

River Deben Herb and Flower Walk - 20th May 2017

Time: 12pm

Start location: The Square, Wickham Market IP13 0qs    

Distance: 4 miles

Walk along the River Deben through the village of Wickham Market in search of plants and herbs used in traditional medicine. Tickets are £4.

5 - 10 Mile Walks

Suffolk Walking Festival - Women walking over bridge

Garden of Suffolk - 20th May 2017

Time: 11am

Start location: Saxmundham Train Station, IP17 1BW

Distance: 6.25 miles

A leisurely walk through the quiet, Suffolk countryside. Over stiles and past grazing livestock in meadows. The walk is one way, with return journey via train. Ticket price is free (plus train ticket). 

Ipswich West End to Waterfront - 21st May 2017

Time: 10.30am - 1.30pm

Start location: Norwich Road, Ipswich IP1 4BX

Distance: 5 miles

Discover the historical development of Suffolk' county town; from the grand houses to factory workers cottages and taking in the waterfront developments. Ticket price £5.

10+ Mile Walks 

Walking with the Saints - 31st May 2017

Time: 9am

Start location: Bungay Golf Course, (Walkers Car Park) NR35 1DS

Distance: 20 miles

Discover the beautiful Waveney Valley with this walk through the Saints villages, stopping by a few of the historic churches en route. This walk is free to join!

It is the perfect place to meet these magnificent horses, to find out how they shaped the landscape of East Anglia and helped to develop farming throughout the Eastern Counties.
