Summer Gig Guide

Summer is here and if you like nothing more than enjoying a pint whilst watching a band play on a warm summer's evening, then you're in for a treat on The Suffolk Coast!

June


22nd – 24th June - Ipswich Jazz Festival
Where: Various Venues, Ipswich
Price: Ticket prices vary
Ipswich’s third jazz festival features a mix of live music, film, art and musicians’ workshops. There will be a great mix of local, national and international jazz artistes – ranging from the young and up-and-coming to the more established and well-known – all packed into a summer weekend together with film, art, lecture and workshops for musicians.

8th – 24th June – Aldeburgh Festival
Price: Various prices
Aldeburgh Festival 2018 celebrates Britten and America. It also reflects 1948 – the remarkable period in post-war British history when the festival began and when so much of what we now regard to be the backbone of our cultural life was launched.

23rd June - Georgie Fame in Concert
Time: 7:30pm
Price: £25
One of a very select number of UK festival dates, Georgie Fame appears in concert at Southwold Arts Festival for one night only. With his much-loved blend of Jazz and Rhythm & Blues, Georgie Fame has consistently worked in the highest musical circles and has become a true icon of the British music scene.

30th June - Mica Paris
Time: 7.30pm
Price: £22.50
Mica Paris is one of the UK’s finest and most respected female singers with a career full of Top 10 hit singles and albums The range power and sheer soulfulness of Mica Paris’ singing made an immediate impact on the UK music scene in 1988 when she released her debut, platinum-selling So Good from which she had her first top 10 hit.

6th – 8th July - Maverick Festival
Where: Easton Farm Park, Woodbridge
Price: £25 - £100
The UK’s leading Americana event, The Maverick Festival is set amongst the restored Victorian barns and outbuildings of Easton Farm Park, nestled deep in the Suffolk countryside yet only two hours from London, with films, workshops and performances from over fifty different artists across six stages, indoors and out. 

12th – 15th July – Latitude Festival
Where: Henham Park, Southwold
Price: Various prices and tickets are available for each of the days and the whole weekend.
This year's line up packs some punches, with Solange, The Killers and Alt-J headlining, plus The Vaccines, Jessie Ware and Rag N' Bone Man. As always, there's an eclectic mix of dance, comedy and music, with Harry Hill, Bridget Christie and Sadler's Wells all taking to the stage.

13th July - The Kast Off Kinks
Time: 7:30pm
Where: The Spa Pavilion, Felixstowe
Price: £22.50 / £20.50
Former members of the legendary band ‘The Kinks’, back together. The Kast off Kinks are actual former members of the legendary band ‘The Kinks’, back together playing great music and re-living the good times whilst keeping the songs alive that made The Kinks a household name. This great line-up features Mick Avory (the original drummer on all the classic hits from 1964-84), John Dalton (bass/vocals, Kinks 60’s & 70’s), Ian Gibbons (keyboards/vocals, Kinks 80’s & 90’s and still performing with Sir Ray Davies) with Dave Clarke (guitar/vocals, formerly of the Beach Boys, Noel Redding & Tim Rose). 

21st -22nd July- Jimmy’s Festival
Where: Jimmy’s Farm, Ipswich

Jimmy’s Festival is back and better than ever! The annual celebration of music & food features acts such as Scouting For Girls, KT Tunstall, our good pal Matt Cardle and the legendary, Chas & Dave. There’s lots of entertainment for kids too with previous entertainment featuring Happy’s Circus, Science Mania, Justin Fletcher, Dick ‘n’ Dom and Mr. Bloom.

28th July - Jazz Night with Palomar
Time: 7:30pm 
Where: Wenhaston Village Hall
Price: £14
An exploration of Benny Goodman style chamber jazz, the evening includes a finger buffet. Tickets are available from Wenhaston Post Office or on the door.

28th July - Purple Jimi & Forever Sabbath 
Time: 7:30pm
Where: Seagull Theatre, Lowestoft
Price: £10
Paying homage to Jimi Hendrix, their refreshingly energetic and unpretentious live show is not to be missed! Purple Jimi deliver a full-on show that features all of your favourite Hendrix tunes, performed with an energy and virtuosity that transcends tribute band status. The sheer musical ability of this band is a force to be reckoned with. This is simply great music performed by great players of genuine pedigree.

4th August - Thank you for the Music

Join the fantabba-ulous party of the year as the 40th anniversary of ABBA's greatest hit Dancing Queen is celebrated in sequin-spangled style. ABBA classics abound. Rocking to the retro sounds of "the right music" - Super Trouper; Waterloo; Mamma Mia; Gimme, Gimme, Gimme; Knowing Me Knowing You and many more - to Lycra-tight perfection.

1st – 31st August -  Snape Proms
Price: From £6.50
Each Summer musicians from around the world converge on Snape for a series of outstanding concerts in one of the world’s great concert halls. From big bands and orchestras to folk groups and solo artists, there's music for everyone at the Snape Proms.
The seats at the front of Snape Maltings Concert Hall are removed to create the Proms area. For every Snape Prom, more than 100 Prom tickets are sold at £6.50 for the closest view of the action.

17th – 19th August - Folk East
Where: Glemham Hall, Little Glemham

Its most impressive line-up to date led by two of the most enduring and legendary bands from the genre - Oysterband and Show of Hands who have an incredible eight BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards between them.

24th – 26th August - Maui Waui
Where: Peakhill Farm, Theberton

Maui Waui is a 3 day international festival of music, performance and arts. Now in its 6th year it is fast becoming one of the area most exciting festivals, pulling in accomplished and undiscovered bands and performers from all around the globe; from watching world-class bands, full circus shows in a dedicated circus tent, big bass dance tents, small upbeat bands and acoustic acts, cabaret and comedy.
