Sur Mer is a slice of relaxed luxury in the beautiful Suffolk coastal town of Aldeburgh. A wonderful seaside escape where you can enjoy the signature Butley Native baked lobster with garlic butter and chips, washed down with a crisp glass of Champagne!
Following the hugely successful pop up L’Escargot Sur-Mer, George Pell and the team opened The Suffolk in August 2022 following a dramatic yet sensitive renovation of the historic 17th century building. Located in the heart of Aldeburgh, The Suffolk is home to a 60-cover restaurant named Sur-Mer, rooftop terrace complete with sea views, wine bar, 12 and 24-seater private dining rooms and six elegantly appointed bedrooms.
The front of house is headed up by owner George Pell, who has spent the last 15 years working in some of London’s most renowned members' clubs and restaurants including Soho’s iconic L’Escargot (where he remains a Partner).
CHEF JAMES JAY
Suffolk-born Chef James Jay’s in-depth knowledge of the county’s produce is evident throughout the menu. Jay joined the team as Head Chef of Sur-Mer at The Suffolk in March 2022 to run the Sur-Mer pop up at New Street Market in Woodbridge with George. He was Head Chef at The Anchor, also in Woodbridge, for ten years previous to that.
