Aldeburgh Cinema offers the very best in world and mainstream cinema. At the heart of the local community since 1919 and home of the Aldeburgh Documentary Festival, Aldeburgh Cinema is a local treasure.
In 2019 the Cinema celebrates its 100th Anniversary and with a year packed with events, great films and the 25th Anniversary of the Aldeburgh Documentary Festival there is much to look forward to!
As well as superb films Aldeburgh Cinema also shows live broadcasts from the National Theatre and the Metropolitan Opera in New York, in addition to hosting events for the Aldeburgh Festival and the HighTide Festival. Every November the Cinema’s annual Documentary Festival plays host to some of the documentary world’s most acclaimed storytellers and commentators. Throughout its history guests have included Sir David Attenborough, Nick Robinson, Joanna Lumley, Asif Kapadia, Louis Theroux, Kate Mosse and many more!
Christmas is always a special time at Aldeburgh Cinema too, with annual performances of It’s a Wonderful Life and Home Alone now staples of the Cinema’s calendar (along with mince pies and mulled wine).
The Cinema is also Aldeburgh’s Visitor Information Centre, so if you’re stopping by drop in for a friendly chat with one of our volunteers, a cup of Paddy & Scott’s freshly ground coffee, and all manner of maps, trail guides, cycle routes and more!
