MTP Presents Theatre on the Coast

Presenting theatre, music and events in Southwold and Aldeburgh, mtp is an award-winning professional theatre company established in 1999 and based in Suffolk since 2010.

Matthew Townshend is the man behind MTP - a former member of the National Youth Theatre and University of Cambridge graduate, he boasts a long career in theatre – as an actor, director, producer, teacher and writer.

During the summer the theatre company brings a selection of brilliant plays to Southwold Arts Centre, along with youth theatre and workshops, perfect for locals and visitors alike. Winter brings a feast of a fairy tale!

THEATRE ON THE COAST 2020 - 1st August - 12th September

As of April our plans are still that despite theatre closures nationwide, MTP and Southwold Arts Centre are staying positive and planning ahead for August.

Premiering at the Theatre on the Coast season this year is a new play from award-winning comedy writer and acclaimed journalist Jan Etherington, who lives in Walberswick and boasts a string of successful TV and radio shows to her name.
Attagirls! will also premiere at the season, written by noted historian and writer Stewart Ross.

Composer Denis King will be adding his musical talents to the programme, not least in the hilarious Privates on Parade, which he co-wrote with the late Peter Nichols. The show was last seen in the West End in 2012.

There will be a host of performers, including acrobats and jugglers from Southwold-based Monkey Business Circus, who will be running workshops for families and younger people.

The season will also play host to six of the short plays first produced at the INK festival 2019 or shortlisted for this years’ showcase, making the summer theatre a platform for new writers.

The season will open in August at Southwold Arts Centre with Hollywood star Robert Powell, in his one man show Charles Dickens: A Celebration.

Tickets can be bought by telephone or via an email order through the Southwold Arts Centre box office. Public booking opens in April and will be available online via www.totc.co.uk (booking fees apply).
