BBC National Orchestra of Wales II

An eagerly anticipated premiere from Gavin Higgins, Britten’s suite of folk song arrangements for orchestra, and an orchestral evocation of the sea by Grace Williams.
Gavin Higgins' 2019 debut opera The Monstrous Child at the Royal Opera House received glowing reviews, and for his new cantata, for singers Marta Fontanals-Simmons and Roderick Williams and orchestra, he teams up with the same librettist, renowned author Francesca Simon. The piece dramatises a Welsh “lady of the lake” myth in which the faerie who emerges from the water to become a local man’s bride is rejected by the local community but takes matters into her own hands. The concert opens with Grace Williams’ 1944 brilliant symphonic piece evoking the sea, followed by Britten's suite of folk song arrangements.
