Discovery Session: Violin Concerto at The Red House

The ever popular sessions led by Britten Pears Foundation's Lucy Walker

One of Britten’s most haunting and passionate works, the Violin Concerto straddles the Atlantic, so to speak. He began it towards the end of 1938, some months before departing for North America, then completed the draft in Toronto not long after his arrival in the spring of 1939.

In this session Lucy will examine the Concerto’s context, its musical themes, and how Britten achieves such remarkable intensity throughout its three movements.

Wednesday 24 October, 11am-12.30pm
