Two day colour printmaking course

A two day course giving you the opportunity to learn reduction linocut printing and execute a 3 colour reduction linocut print.

The course is held in the paper-works studio. With two presses available and the course limited to just four students you are assured of having great access to the equipment.

The reduction linocut printing method was first used by commercial printmakers but first used extensively for art printmaking by Picasso. A single linocut plate is used to print each different colour the lino being further cutaway between each application of colour to produce the final image. The technique is characterised by rich overlays of colour.

The course will include:

Development of your design (up to 20cm x 15 cm in size). Transfer of a design to Lino.Use of linocut tools to carve your design. Registration techniques for reduction linocut. Mixing colours.Techniques to ink up your linocut. Plate printing each of your chosen colours using a professional press.

Previous experience is not essential but a knowledge of basic linocut technique is an advantage. All materials and lunch* will be provided on both days.

The course will be led by Lisa Hurcum and Hugh Davies.* Lunch will be vegetarian/pescatarian using locally sourced products where possible. Please advise us in advance of any specific dietary requirements.
