Writing by the Sea – A New Series of Writer’s Walks on the Suffolk Coast

Arrivals and Departures – Felixstowe’s Wild Edge

In this Writer’s Walk workshop you will explore tools for writing from landscape, and begin to apply the principles of mindful writing.

Landguard Common, Felixstowe is a little-known shingle promontory on the Suffolk Coast, with its broad skies and seascapes, fascinating history, and modern port, it's packed full of inspiration for writers. The workshop, which runs from 10.30am -2.30pm (meet-up from 10am), is suitable for writers working in any genre, and at any stage in their writing.

Landguard Peninsula is Felixstowe’s best-kept secret – it’s witnessed the departure of the Mayflower, the arrival of King Cnut and his fleet, while a Napoleonic fort and WWII gun emplacements are reminders of invasion and defence. It’s visually dramatic, too – a site of Special Scientific Interest with rare plants and migrating birds, and here the world’s greatest ships come to offload.

Arrivals and Departures – Felixstowe’s Wild Edge is the first of three brand new Writer’s Walks on the Suffolk Coast this summer, led by award-winning writer and native of Suffolk, Liz Ferretti, the workshops take in the unique landscapes of Landguard Point, Felixstowe, Orford, and Dunwich.

Facilities: There is a choice of cafés, and accessible toilets on our route. Maximum two miles walking over shingle and rough ground. There is a good alternative route for those with reduced mobility. Please dress appropriately for a day on the Suffolk coast.
