Deben View - National Trust Sutton Hoo

A stunningly spacious period apartment with a marble bathroom and wooden verandah, surrounded by Anglo-Saxon history in the grounds of the National Trust Sutton Hoo estate.

Deben View is an elegant first-floor apartment based in Tranmer House, a place of fascinating history. It was in this apartment that its former owner, Edith Pretty, had a vision which inspired the famous Sutton Hoo archaeological dig in which an Anglo-Saxon ship was discovered.

You will have views across this fascinating landscape and beyond to the River Deben, where you can enjoy breathtaking sunsets from its wooden verandah. If you have a soft spot for interiors, you'll appreciate its original features, including the period wood paneling in the living area.

Walk around the 7th-century burial grounds before heading into the Exhibition Hall. Here you can learn more about who was buried here and see the full-size reconstruction of the burial chamber, stunning replica treasures and original finds from one of the mounds, including a prince's sword.

Beyond the Sutton Hoo estate, lies the beautiful Deben Peninsula home of Bawdsey Radar and the Suffolk Punch Trust. Rendlesham Forest is just a 15-minute drive, the Suffolk coast is close-by, with Orford Ness National Nature Reserve a 20-minute drive. On this wild and remote shingle spit, you'll discover an abundance of wildlife and fascinating 20th-century military history.

All guests enjoy free access to any National Trust property for the duration of their stay in one of their holiday cottages.
