The Crown and Castle

In the heart of Orford you will find the Crown and Castle, a restaurant with 21 rooms

The Crown and Castle is renowned for a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere that allows guests to enjoy their surroundings and feel free to take their time.

Winner  *Sawday’s Award 2017 for Fabulous Food*

There are few better places on The Suffolk Coast to enjoy the blue skies and sunshine than Orford, a small fishing village known for its peaceful atmosphere and  brilliant local produce – Pump Street Bakery and Pinney’s smokehouse are a must for food lovers. There is a lot to explore including the strangely beautiful Ness and Orford’s fine 12th-century castle. A little further afield, Rendlesham Forest offers wonderful walks and on RSPB Havergate Island wildlife teems (pre-bookable visits only).

Good food is at the heart of the Crown and Castle. The restaurant has a relaxed but lively ambience and guests often cite the food as a major reason for staying. Everything depends on season but at lunchtime the casual menu might offer anything from proper shortcrust steak & kidney pie or a feast of Felixstowe sprats to Italian beef fillet carpaccio or seafood risotto. In the evening the imaginative a la carte again offers authentic Italian and British dishes. For example, a starter of deep-fried tiger prawns, squid and sanguinello orange with aioli might be followed by an Italian lamb and rosemary stew or local cod with Umbrian lentil ragù and salsa verde.

The Crown and Castle’s 21 en-suite bedrooms are light and comfortable with modern bathrooms. Some are in the main house with delightful views over to the sea, while the ground floor Garden rooms (five of which are dog-friendly) have semi-private terraces.
