O&C Butcher

The 130 year old clothes store at the forefront of fashion

Independents, Online, Fashion, Gifts

Aldeburgh has changed in many ways over the last hundred years, but one business has been an ever present in the town.  O&C Butcher is a well loved and long established fixture on Aldeburgh High Street, providing quality clothing and footwear for both men and women. Friendly and experienced staff enjoy helping customers choose from brands such as Barbour, Gant, Oui, Massai, Sebago and Gabor.  Perfect for a spot of shopping by the sea.

O&C Butcher started as a small business in a single storey cottage on the edge of town. However, it wasn’t long before they had to add another floor due to their popularity, and soon afterwards they bought the house next door too, creating a shop that was four times the size of their original premises.

In those days it was known as Edward Butcher’s Supply Stores, a general store that sold a wide range of goods. When Fishers Boot and Shoe shop – a company in the centre of town – sold up, Butcher took the opportunity to buy their store and take up a position on the main High Street.

Once again they expanded sideways, and in this larger store they sold a range of products from food to clothing.

The specialisation to a tailors and outfitters happened gradually over the years, until the store became the O&C Butcher that we know now. These days the Suffolk emporium is still in its prime High Street location, and still sells a vast range of clothing and footwear.
