Iken Canoe

Iken Canoe hires out canoes and kayaks on the stunning upper reaches of the River Alde between Snape Maltings and Aldeburgh, close to the Suffolk coast. 

Use of equipment can be hired for up to 2 hours, around the high tide period (which changes every day). All boats are suitable for a wide range of skill levels and are ideal for couples, groups or family outings. 

Buoyancy aids, paddles and dry bags are all included. Iken Canoe will also provide you with a full safety briefing, a map and the direction of travel while on the river.

We ask all customers to respect the river environment, the wildlife and habitat (see our website for more information).

Iken Canoe is open every day in July and August (tides and weather permitting), weekends-only in May, June, and September. 

Cost (for 2hr hire):

Canadian canoe (2 or 3 adults) £40 - Two adults and two small children (aged 7-10) can also go in one Canadian canoe. It is not recommended for one adult on their own with small children as sometimes it can be difficult to make progress against wind and tide in a Canadian canoe.

*Double sit-on-top kayak £35 (only available in July and August)

*Single sit-on-top kayak £25 (only available in July and August)

Double canoes (4 adults or a mix of adults and children with a max of 6 people) £75

Payment: Iken Canoe takes cash or card on the day. However, if it is a large booking, we will send you a link for pre-payment.

Some important rules:

Buoyancy aids (provided) must be worn at all times by all customers.

Iken Canoe reserves the right to postpone hire if conditions are unsuitable.

Iken Canoe will not hire craft to under 18s, unless they are accompanied by an adult in the party. Children under the age of  7 years old are not allowed on the river in Iken Canoe's canoes (even if accompanied by an adult).

Iken Canoe recommends that non-swimmers do not hire its equipment.

Iken canoe will not hire to solo paddlers for safety reasons.

Iken Canoe recommends that people do not consume alcohol before or during the hire period.

We do not hire out paddleboards.

Dogs are not permitted in our canoes.
