40's Day at the Norfolk & Suffolk Aviation Museum

The Norfolk & Suffolk Aviation Museum is pleased to be able to host a 1940's themed Open Day on the 5th May 2024.

Museum staff and Volunteers will be in 1940's period costume – mostly military uniforms as they have a lot of those to choose from – but also civilian clothing too. Mike Kendall and his 40's dancers will be providing wartime music, dance and entertainment in the main hangar and everyone is encouraged to wear something appropriate to those wartime years!

On the same day the Museum welcomes back the Three Rivers Harley-Davison Owners Group with around 30 Harleys of all sizes, and about 35 riders & pillions who will be making the trek across country from their start point on the A1 near Hatfield. The Group take their name from the rivers Chess, Colne and Gade and hold their monthly club nights in Harpenden. The museum is delighted that they've chosen them for their ride-out again this year and wish them a great ride across to the museum. Take a look at https://iiirivershogchapter.co.uk if you want to join up and put some more miles on your Harley (but make sure you join the UK Group and not the one with the same name in Pittsburgh, USA).

The Museum site will be fully open as usual from 10am through to 4pm on the day, with all the aircraft, cockpits and equipment displays, the 446th, Air Sea Rescue and ROC buildings all open and Museum Volunteers on hand to explain the thousands of aviation related items that make up the Museum Collection.

The NAAFI cafe will be open for the serious business of tea, coffee and cake, and the shop will be offering a wide range of aviation related goodies to help you make the most of your day.

If you really want to go to town on lunch then why not try the Buck Inn situated just outside the Museum gates - give them a ring on 01986 896883 and book your table!

Entrance to the Museum and parking when you arrive, are all free - but they would really appreciate a donation to help with the never ending maintenance of all the exhibits and to help keep the Museum growing.

Well behaved dogs are welcome, provided they are kept on a lead (but not in the shop please, it gets a bit narrow). They are also wheelchair friendly with access to all areas, apart from aircraft cockpits.
