First Light Festival returns to the golden sands and lush gardens of Lowestoft’s South Beach across the solstice weekend, Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 June 2024.
The festival marks the first sunrise of midsummer in the UK’s most easterly town with a huge, free programme of music, dance, theatre, science, wellbeing, comedy, sports, community activities and unique events. Gather on the water’s edge and watch live performance as the sun breaks over the horizon. Camp amongst the sand dunes under a sky full of stars. Sink your feet into the sand and dance under the shimmering midsummer sun to new music from across the globe, and down the road.
Line Up
This year's line up has something for everyone! Heading up the line-up on the Sunlight Stage, Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy, legendary DJ, radio host and music producer will play the main stage on Saturday evening, plus she will bring her 'Balearic Breakfast' to the beach at dawn on Sunday morning.
The Sunlight Stage will also feature Spirit of Sundaze Ensemble, Another Taste, Slambovian Circus of Dreams, Young Gun Silver Fox, Coco Maria, Hackney Colliery Band and many more.
Over in the First Word tent, there's poet and author Hollie McNish, poets Daljit Nagra, Ramond Antrobus and Jay Mitra, plus comedians Joe Wells and Alexis Dubus.
As the sun goes down, events move off the beach into venues around the town, with comedian Shaparak Khorsandi at The Seagull Theatre, the Coco Maria Afterparty at Mossy's, Jazz Unlimited Trio at Royal Norfolk & Suffolk Yacht Club, Moonlit Soundscapes at St Peter & St John's Church and the infamous Silent Disco at East Point Pavilion.
A highlight of First Light, Dawn is an extraordinary, reflective experience, unique to the festival.
Celebrating Dawn in the most easterly place in the UK is special to First Light Festival. Join the sunrise club and watch as the first light of day gleams through the twilight – salute the sun with daybreak yoga, zone into our new music commissions and be part of the first Balearic Breakfast music and feasting experience.
There's plenty for families too; with family dance workshops, singing, music, history and science, sport, yoga and much more!
