Foray and Fire Cooking

Spend a relaxing day in the Suffolk countryside learning how to eat for free from the fields and hedgerows and turn your foraged ingredients into a tasty, sustainable, naturally inspired lunch and supper, cooked on a wood fire in a beautiful herb garden.

After introductions, coffee and cake, Vivia Bamford from Sciapod Foray, will lead a foraging walk around the farm and local area to collect your hedgerow ingredients for the day. You will spend your time thinking about the dos and don’ts of foraging, taking a storytelling and sharing approach to identifying plants of interest, covering folklore, traditional medicine, and food uses of the plants around you.

You will then return to the outdoor kitchen in the tranquil Fire and Feast herb garden for hands-on wood fire cooking, using the Roadii grills to prepare a light lunch and two course supper with your foraged ingredients. You will also be provided with additional ingredients and garnishes made in advance of the day with other foraged plants.

You will begin with fire lighting. Once fires are lit, you will spend your time grilling, roasting and baking, in, on and over the fire in the secluded garden. With a combination of demonstrations and hands-on cookery, you will prepare a variety of tasty treats, culminating in a final meal shared in their tipi. There will be time for questions and conversations and an opportunity to savour the beautiful Suffolk countryside as you cook and dine.
