Halesworth Heritage Open Day

This years Heritage Open Days span from the 11th – 18th September and include over 15 events in and around Halesworth – all free! 

Enjoy tours, walks, events, open houses & more involving the Halesworth Museum, Halesworth to Southwold Narrow Gauge Railway (HSNGR) St Mary’s Church, Bank House, Halesworth U3A, The Cut Arts Centre, Walpole Old Chapel, Halesworth Cemetery Chapel, The Magickal Emporium, The Old Methodist Church, The United Reformed Church, The Masonic Lodge, the gallery and more.

There will be guided walks covering the lost buildings and bridges of Millennium Green and its previous Victorian railway and the Blyth Navigation system, Quay Street and Halesworth Heritage Trees. Guided Tours of the infamous Bank House, previously Gurneys Bank and the Masonic Lodge – the Lodge of Prudence will also be open for tours. See inside the Halesworth Cemetery Chapel and search for ancestors in the Burial records and enjoy a talk by Church architect Alan Greening, or a talk on bee-keeping at St Mary’s. Join Simon Raven for a tour of the Cut Arts Centre – previously a Maltings. Explore the United Reformed Church and learn about the history of the building.

Enjoy a photography exhibition at St Mary’s Church and an exhibition at Walpole Old Chapel. The Museum is also open for the Old Halesworth Buildings Slideshow.

St Mary’s Church will house displays, offer bell-ringing opportunities and a repair cafe. Join local history expert Simon Parker at the Magickal Emporium to see his work on the ‘Halesworth History Map’ discovering buildings, peoples and places. The Southwold to Halesworth Narrow Gauge Railway will also have an open day and model railway event at Blythburgh Station on Sunday 14th September.
