From Bungay’s Workshop to the World: The Story of Nursey’s Iconic Sheepskin Coats

For one last time, the doors of the old factory will open to the public, offering a unique glimpse into the story of Nursey’s and its iconic sheepskin coats as worn by Del Boy in Only Fools and Horses and football commentator John Motson.

Discover a working demonstration, explore photographs of famous figures who wore Nursey’s sheepskins, see the fashion houses that bought their products, and watch a fascinating video charting the company’s long history.

For more than 180 years, Nursey’s has been part of the fabric of Bungay. The business began by making leather aprons, gloves, and protective equipment for agricultural workers and blacksmiths before becoming renowned for its sheepskin products.

The Nursey family’s 168 years of ownership came to an end in 2014, when the original physical business in Upper Olland Street finally closed its doors.

Nursey’s sheepskin coats reached iconic status during the 1960s, 70s and 80s, when demand soared. Their distinctive coats were worn by everyone from General Montgomery to Del Boy in Only Fools and Horses.

The workshop will be open, and cutters and machinists who still work above the old shop will demonstrate the same hand-craft manufacturing methods.
