Sea This Art Exhibition

Lowestoft’s vibrant creative community is making waves this September with Sea This, a dynamic new exhibition which opens on Friday 12 September at The Battery of Ideas on Lowestoft’s London Road North.

Running in tandem with Heritage Open Days Suffolk, this bold showcase brings together 22 Easterly Artists members across a spectrum of disciplines, each contributing a unique voice to one monumental Wall of Art.

Easterly Artists

Run by its members as a not-for-profit collective, Easterly Artists is a group of visual artists based at the eastern-most edge of the UK mainland. It formed in 2018 to promote the practice of local artists and encourage awareness and appreciation of their work.

Members are all practising artists living and/or working within a 20-mile radius of Ness Point, the most easterly part of the UK.

From painting and sculpture to mixed media and conceptual installations,' Sea This' invites audiences to explore the richness of individual artistic practice while celebrating collective creativity. The exhibition reflects the spirit of Lowestoft’s evolving cultural landscape: curious, collaborative and deeply rooted in a sense of place.

Whether you're a seasoned art lover or a curious passerby, 'Sea This' offers a rare opportunity to witness the power of artistic expression in all its forms. Come for the art, stay for the stories, and leave with a renewed sense of connection.
Sea This is open daily 11am - 3pm, Friday 12 - Saturday 20 September, at The Battery of Ideas, 119 - 125 London Road North, Lowestoft NR32 1LZ. Entry is free and all areas are fully accessible.

All are welcome at the Private View, 5pm, Friday 12 September, when Lowestoft-born bestselling author, concert performer and celebrated Classic FM presenter Zeb Soanes will formally open the show. Zeb is already well-known to Lowestoft audiences for launching a community project in 2022 to raise funds for a statue of Benjamin Britten, to be located on the seafront opposite the composer's childhood home.

A special highlight of the Private View will be an experimental project created by Easterly Artists members Nickie Holford and Ally and Paul Zawadzki, who are exploring the concept of sensory immersive experience. Designed specifically for individuals with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), this installation uses light, sound, and tactile elements to engage and delight. The experience is a heartfelt tribute to accessibility in the arts and has been generously supported by Immersive Arts UK.
