The Rogues Shanty Chorus Annual 'Shod' Concert at The Seagull Theatre

A much-loved local tradition comes alive once more as The Rogues Shanty Chorus bring history, harmony and humour back to the stage. Their annual Shod concert blends rousing song with storytelling, inviting audiences to share in the spirit of Lowestoft’s seafaring past.

Rooted firmly in the town’s fishing heritage, this lively performance draws inspiration from the spirited gatherings once organised by fishermen for their own amusement. Through song and spoken word, tales of notable residents, colourful personalities and long-remembered places are brought vividly to life, creating a portrait of a community shaped by the sea.

The chorus specialises in traditional sea shanties and folk songs sourced from coastal life, presenting them in a way that feels both authentic and welcoming. Their performances balance robust, foot-stomping numbers with moments of reflection, allowing the stories behind the music to shine. Humour is never far away, delivered with warmth and an unmistakable pub-singaround atmosphere that makes every audience feel part of the crew.

Preserving and celebrating local cultural identity is central to the group’s work, and this concert continues that mission by connecting past and present through shared musical experience. Singing along is warmly encouraged, whether you know every word or are discovering the songs for the first time.

The performance takes place on Sunday 12th April at 7:00pm at The Seagull Theatre.

Tickets cost £12, with concessions at £11. With consistently full houses, early booking is strongly advised.
