Owner George Pell and the team at newly launched The Suffolk are thrilled to announce that reservations for the six individually designed bedrooms are now live.
Nestled in the heart of Aldeburgh, The Suffolk is home to a 60-cover restaurant named Sur-Mer which opened in August 2022, a wine bar, two private dining rooms and a rooftop terrace complete with sea views. The opening of the bedrooms is the final stage of the dramatic yet sensitive restoration of the former inn, which dates back to the 17th century.
The six bedrooms reference the heritage and original features of the former inn with contemporary luxury touches. The rich palettes of green and purple throughout the rooms juxtapose the blue scallop shaped tiles found in the en suite bathrooms, all of which feature Haeckels apothecary products, and each room boasts super king beds topped with sumptuous, cashmere mattresses and beautifully designed headboards.
The furniture has been lovingly sourced directly from local antique dealers Richard Anthony Rush Antiques along with bespoke pieces from British artisans.
The spacious suites on the top floor of The Suffolk are perfect for families (children of four and over are welcome), with extra beds available on request.
Suffolk born Designer, Kate Fulford, has led on the interiors of the six elegant bedrooms, taking inspiration from Aldeburgh and the wider beauty of the Suffolk region while remaining sympathetic to the building’s original details. This is clearly reflected in the individual room names, including ‘Orford Ness’ which is the shingle spit just south of the town and ‘Iken’, part of the River Alde towards Snape. Each room also pays homage to the surrounding landscape with figurative and graphic botanical Rapture & Wright wallpaper lining the walls. While some prints echo the grassy marshland of the nearby River Ore, others show avine designs reflecting the plethora of wildlife around the county.
Guests have access to the first floor pantry stocked with locally crafted produce including Fishers Gin and Pump Street Chocolate (included in the room rate).While four legged friends can enjoy homemade treats (two of the rooms at The Suffolk are dog friendly).
Breakfast is available in Sur-Mer and Head Chef, James Jay, serves a morning menu which features a show stopping Full Suffolk with sausages from E W Revett Butchers in nearby Wickham Market, Lane Farm Brundish Bacon and sourdough toast from Harvey & Co, all of which is included in the room rate. Other dishes include Pinney’s Smoked Salmon, Rye Bread, Pickles and Omelette Arnold Bennett with Avruga Caviar.
