7 Unmissable Festivals on The Suffolk Coast this Summer

The summer may not be quite '2019' but we there's still plenty to enjoy across The Suffolk Coast. Check out our pick of the festivals taking place and get filling up your 2021 diary!

1. First Light presents Longest Days of Summer

TTDA - First Light - Longest Days of Summer

First Light Festival is delighted to present a series of events to celebrate the longest days of summer at the UK’s most easterly town, Lowestoft from 21 - 27 June 2021.

Although the festival as it was in 2019 is not able to go ahead as planned, a collection of exciting performances of music and visual art will be held beginning with a live stream of midsummer solstice on the 21 June from South Beach. The following weekend will see activities taking place on the beach, Kensington Gardens as well as in the town itself which have been planned including the Beach of Dreams and First Flight exhibitions plus live music, yoga on the beach, workshops and more to enjoy.

2. Felixstowe Book Festival

Felixstowe Book Festival takes place at Harvest House in Felixstowe and online on 25, 26 & 27 June 2021.

This year's Festival includes a programme of live, in person events, complimented by an exciting online programme of live streamed events where authors will be chatting with us from the comfort of their own homes in the UK and beyond! Authors live at Harvest House include Terry Waite CBE, Esther Freud, Jojo Moyes, Harriet Tyce, Kate Rhodes and Louise Millar, Iain Dale, Sally Vickers, Liz Trenow, Tony Faber and Laura Thompson.

3. Theatre on the Coast

TTDA - MTP Theatre on the Coast - Hello Norma Jeane

Theatre on the Coast offers professional summer repertory theatre here on the Suffolk Coast at Southwold Arts Centre. With a broad mixture of comedies, thrillers and family drama.

This summer, the award-winning MTP theatre group will be presenting their summer programme, including; 'Cleo, Camping, Emmanuelle and Dick', 'Music from Perhaps Contraption', 'Monkey Business Circus', 'Robert Powell', 'Treasure Island', 'Hello Norma Jeane' and 'Tomfoolery' - running from 21st July - 4th September.

4. Maverick Festival

TTDA - Maverick Festival

Established in 2008, Maverick Festival is now the UK's leading Americana event showcasing the best roots music from both sides of the Atlantic.

This year's festival takes place from 3rd - 5th September amongst the restored Victorian barns and outbuildings of Easton Farm Park, nestled deep in the Suffolk countryside, the festival also hosts films, workshops and performances from over fifty different artists across six stages, indoors and out.

Tipi and bell tent glamping is available, plus there's a spacious general campsite set on rolling meadows only a few moments from the show-grounds.

Hand-picked food vendors catering to all tastes will be on hand alongside selected local ales, lager and cider.

5. Snape Proms

There is something for everyone at the Snape Proms; Throughout August, there are daily performances in the Concert Hall, as well as free family-friendly events at the new outdoor venue The Dome Stage!

This year’s Proms will include everything from folk and jazz to world music, classical, comedy and poetry, with 31 concerts over 30 days celebrating music in all its diversity.

For every Snape Prom, more than 100 Prom tickets are sold at £7.50 for the closest view of the action. There’s always a chance to get tickets for sell-outs, as 20 Prom tickets go on sale at 10am on the morning of every concert at Snape Maltings Concert Hall’s box office.

The Concert Hall Cafe & Restaurant will also be open you can take the opportunity of enjoying its breathtaking view of the Alde Estuary whilst you enjoy your dinner.

6. FolkEast

FolkEast is a multi-arts based festival for all good folk and their families to revel in three days of music, song and dance over eight performance stages. 

The extravaganza takes place in the lovely Glemham Hall Grounds from 20th - 22nd August this year, with Festival headliners The Young'Uns, Topette!!, Gigspanner Big Band, Elephant Sessions, Afro Celt Sound System, The Shee, Daoiri Farrell and many more.

7. Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival

Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival - Courtyard - The Suffolk Coast

Come and enjoy this fantastic Food Festival set within the grounds of Snape Maltings, Suffolk on 25 and 26 September 2021. 

With over 90 food and drink producers from Suffolk, many from just a few miles away, all gathered to sell their produce including raw milk, organic vegetables, sourdough bread, award winning beer and spirits from sponsors Adnams, cyder from Aspall and delicious street food.
