Woodbridge Riverside Trust

Woodbridge Riverside Trust is a charitable organisation which facilitates community activities.

The Trust holds the tenancy of the Longshed, in Whisstocks Place, by the River Deben. The Longshed comprises a large ground floor and an upper mezzanine floor - the John Gibbins Gallery. The Trust is host to the major replica ship-building project being undertaken on the ground floor by the Sutton Hoo Ship's Comapany (www.saxonship.org).

Two of the Trust's key objectives are:

1. To create opportunities for community engagement and enjoyment through participation in creative projects and the learning of new skills.

2. To encourage a wide range of exhibitors and speakers with 'maritime' and related themes designed to suit all ages and interests.

Some examples of the Trust's work:

1. Practical skills workshops for young people.

2. The King's River tapestry - a beautiful exhibition of creative textile panels telling the story of the Sutton Hoo burial ship. These are on permanent display in the John Gibbins Gallery.

3. Follow the Ship - an innovative educational programme for schools covering important elements in the school curriculum. Students learn about Anglo-Saxon life and how archaeology helps us to 'know' them, their culture and their boats.

4. Sae Wylfing, a beautiful, half-size replica of the Sutton Hoo ship, is on long-term loan to the Riverside Trust and is normally either on the quay or travelling round to exhibitions.

5. The Trust's shop on the ground floor has an extensive range of gifts and artefacts for sale at a reasonable price.

The Longshed is open most days between 11am and 3pm.  For more information, please go to: https://www.woodbridgeriversidetrust.org.

The John Gibbins Gallery provides a bird's-eye view of the replica ship build. It is where you can see "The King's River " textile panels, and where there are often talks, exhibitions and other events. It can seat up to 70 people and is available for daytime hire.
