First Light Festival 2025

First Light Festival 2025 is set to illuminate Lowestoft’s South Beach on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 June, marking its fifth anniversary as the UK’s only free beachfront arts festival.

Timed with the summer solstice, the festival offers a vibrant, family-friendly celebration of music, dance, science, art, and community spirit in Britain’s most easterly town.

This year’s theme, “From the Seabed to the Sky,” explores the natural world through creative and scientific lenses. Festival zones include the Sunlight Stage for global music acts, Planet Positive for environmental talks and workshops, MoonDance for dance performances, and Wellbeing by the Waves for relaxation and wellness activities. The festival also features a “New Dawn” showcase spotlighting emerging local talent aged 14–25, and a collaborative opening parade created with local schools and community groups.

Headliners include Afro-jazz ensemble Nubiyan Twist, disco collective Horse Meat Disco, and electronic artist Girls of the Internet. The festival also features performances by poet and novelist Jackie Kay, poet Brian Bilston, and sculptor Laurence Edwards, who will present new art installations on the beach.

The festival runs from noon to sundown on Saturday, and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, with a special “Sunrise at Dawn” programme at 3:30am on Sunday morning . Attendees can also enjoy camping on the beach, making it a truly immersive midsummer experience.
