Frankenstein at Thorington Theatre

Mary Shelley's Gothic Masterpiece

Following their sold out Suffolk performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream earlier this summer, British Touring Shakespeare are set to perform their bold open-air adaptation of Frankenstein at Thorington Theatre in the Woods on Saturday 23 August 2025.

Starring American performer Megan Carter as scientist Victoria Frankenstein and internationally acclaimed star Paul Winterford as The Creature, this new adaptation blends gothic atmosphere with period-accurate naval detail. The production features a full cast, historically accurate costumes and props, and an atmospheric live musical score.

Award winning historian and playwright David Hobbs MBE, a retired Royal Navy Commander, who co-adapted the play, said: “We’ve striven for authenticity in both the dialogue and the staging—particularly in the naval scenes. The language reflects the period’s seafaring vernacular, and every detail—from the sound of rigging to the prop design—has been informed by rigorous historical research.”

Part of British Touring Shakespeare’s 2025 summer tour, Frankenstein continues the company’s 25-year legacy of accessible, high-quality outdoor theatre.
