Sanging the Folk

Sea shanties, folk songs and maritime music

Andy, Paul, and Stephen, the founders of the Rogue Shanty Buoys in North East Suffolk, have spent the past eight years conducting an extensive research project which has explored and celebrated the rich musical heritage of the East Anglian fishing industry.
Throughout this time, they have performed nationwide, delivering heritage talks, performances, and workshops, while also nurturing Lowestoft’s very own fishing choir—a passionate and dedicated ensemble in its own right.

For the first time, the trio will perform together to deliver an intimate yet informal concert in their hometown, presenting a unique fusion of sea shanties and tales deeply rooted in the region’s maritime history.

This performance will feature their favourite songs - traditional shanties as well as obscure maritime songs, alongside the captivating stories behind them, in a theatre show which promises plenty of humour and unfussy arrangements of seafaring ballads and nautical songs.
