Hippersons Boatyard
Hippersons Boatyard is a family run boatyard on the southern reach of the Norfolk Broads located in the market town of Beccles, providing self-catering accommodation that floats in the basin and on the river front.
Each of the houseboats and the three glamping pods can sleep up to 4 in a double and a twin room or bunk beds. All our floating holiday homes are named after Arthur Ransome stories, many of these river adventures were set in the local area. The pod with its own small field, is called ‘Secret Garden’, with a private eco wood fired hot-tub and fire-pit.
The floating pod “Wild Cat Island” is an exciting addition to the river front, named after the island in the Swallows and Amazons stories (as seen on Channel 4s' Floating Homes).
Want to bring your pet? The houseboats are all pet friendly, and so is Secret Garden, with previous guests including rabbits, parrots, dogs and other furry friends, but the two floating glamping pods do not take pets.
The houseboats are self-catering with a boat oven, 4 ring hob and a microwave. They are a short walk from the car park and have been accessed by people on mobility scooters, but please call to talk to the owners before booking if you have any concerns.
Want to see if we are suitable for you individual needs? Take a look at the accessible guides on our website which should provide you with enough information to make a choice that's right for you.
All of the site is available for private fishing if you want to bring your rods!
Watch the take a peek at wild cat here . Wild Cat sleeps up to 4 and has electric heating, an outside floating deck where you can sit and watch the sunrise and set over the beautiful Beccles Quay. It has a complete kitchen galley, with a king size double room and twin beds in a separate bedroom. Pets are not permitted on the floating glamping pods.
Hippersons are proud to have been awarded the winner of Glamping in the East of England 2025/26, third overall in the UK, A Visit England Rose Award for customer service and achieved Trip Advisor top 10% hotels in the world for five years running.
If you want to experience boating beyond your houseboat or pod, you have access to your own private dingy for rowing and/or sailing.
Tuesday to Saturday day boats are also available for rental plus guided canoe tours, and Stand Up Paddle-board lessons. Totally unique to Norfolk a pedal boat for two is available for hire from May to September.
The centre of the town is only an 8 minute gentle stroll away where there are many restaurants, cafes and pubs sitting alongside independent retailers and of course, you are only a 20 minute drive from the beautiful Suffolk coast and all it has to offer!
The boatyard rents day boats, 6 electric and 1 diesel, if you wish to explore the river further and seek out the local wildlife, there is always much to see on the southern broads which differ in character from the northern broads quite dramatically.
Hippersons has partnered with Relish Cafe who now provide hampers of local food, or a personalised picnic hamper to accompany you on your day on the Broads.
Just a short walk away you can find Beccles Lido - which some adventurous customers have rowed to and from!
There are several big supermarkets located within a 5 minute drive and most have petrol stations. When you arrive for your holiday the owners will greet you and tell you more about the beautiful local area.
