Leiston's first book festival took place on Saturday 7th September at the town's Edwardian film theatre.
Around 150 people attended Leiston's first book festival, which focused on writers whose books explore our evolving landscape. One attendee commented that it was thought provoking, as well as entertaining, and quite different from other literary festivals he'd been to.
The audience were taken in search of threatened bird species by Patrick Galbraith, to the High Caucuses by Tom Parfitt, around the north sea by Jules Pretty, and back in time by Adrian Bell and Robert Ashton, who talked about Adrian Bell and George Ewart Evans. Local author Julia Blackburn gave a moving account of finding her first home in Suffolk, before talking about her search for doggerland.
Next year's Leiston Book Festival will take place on Saturday 20th September 2025, and you can sign up to be kept informed as the festival takes shape. The venue seats 240 and the organisers expect all to be taken for the 2025 festival.
