Fish & Chip Shops you Have to Try on The Suffolk Coast

There's nothing like ripping open a package of newspaper and tucking into steaming hot fish and chips. Whether yours is a haddock and chips, scampi, cod or sausage, we've picked the best fish & chip shops on The Suffolk Coast for you to visit!

1. Aldeburgh Fish & Chip Shop

Where: 226 High Street, Aldeburgh IP15 5DB

Reportedly the best fish & chip shop in the country, Aldeburgh Fish & Chip Shop is a 50-year-old, family-run establishment situated on Aldeburgh's pretty high street and just a stone's throw from the beach. Serving freshly caught fish and made from locally grown potatoes, chips and all the extras you would expect such as mushy peas, scraps and cod roe, it's ideally situated should you find yourself in need of lunch during a day at the beach, or for supper after a walk along the water's edge.

Aldeburgh Fish & Chip Shop is takeaway only, but if you would like to dine in, their sister restaurant The Upper Deck is just a short walk further along the High Street.

2. Little Fish & Chip Shop, Southwold

Where: 2 East Street, Southwold IP18 6EH

With views of the sea from the front door, you won't mind queuing up outside the Little Fish & Chip Shop in Southwold. With daily deliveries of freshly caught fish and a sea breeze to accompany you can practically taste the sea salt! Opt to sit in in the small seated area or walk towards to sea and along Southwold's famous beach-hut lined prom.

3. Fish Dish, Felixstowe

Where: 69 Undercliff Road, Felixstowe IP11 2AD

Housed in a distinctive grey building overlooking the Pier and voted one of the Top 10 Fish & Chip restaurants by Fry Magazine, Fish Dish in Felixstowe is a restaurant famous for serving delicious crispy battered fish and perfectly cooked chips. Should you want to try something different there's a range of dishes on the menu including steak&onion pie, grilled chicken skewers or lamb chops or grilled whole sea bream.

4. Cumberland Fish & Chip Bar, Woodbridge

Where: 2 Cumberland Street, Woodbridge IP12 4AB

Known for serving fresh, succulent fish encased in a light, crispy batter along with fluffy, golden chips, at Cumberland Street Fish & Chip Bar in Woodbridge you will find a small restaurant indoors, with a bar serving wines, beers and spirits, should you wish to enjoy a tipple and eat your food from on a plate rather than in paper!

5. The Seashell, Halesworth

Where: 5 Bridge Street, Halesworth IP19 8AB

A pretty little, family-run fish & chip restaurant in Halesworth, complete with blue gingham tablecloths, offering a delicious choice of fish, haddock, rock, or cod and small, medium or large chips.

The generous portions of cod are coated with a light, crunchy batter along with steaming hot portions of chips. Diners are free to takeaway or sit and enjoy their meal in the small restaurant.

6. Lady T's Fish & Chips, Southwold

Located on Southwold Harbour, Mrs T’s is a favourite among locals and tourists alike. Unlike many fish and chip shops, all the food is cooked fresh to order so there may be a short wait, but you can make the most of your time and watch the boats bob on the water. Fish is served in a light crispy batter accompanied by delicious crispy chips.

This shop closes for some of the winter months and frying times can be limited but you can find times listed on their Facebook page.
