With its serene landscapes, invigorating sea air, and a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, you can gather your friends, family, four-legged companion or even go solo and explore The Suffolk Coast this new year.
Walking

Take a stroll along the golden sands of the beach at Southwold, following the shoreline and taking in the sound of the waves and the fresh sea air. Make your way to the pier which offers plenty to explore, with quirky amusements and stunning views of the coastline. If you feel like pausing for something to eat, the Boardwalk Restaurant, located on the pier offers healthy salads and freshly caught seafood, all while enjoying a panoramic sea view.
If you’d like a walk with a focus on nature and wildlife, head to Dunwich Heath. This conservation area offers a picturesque blend of coastal heathland and shingle beach; perfect for spotting rare birds and other wildlife while you wander. The gentle trails and background sound of the sea allow you to really lose yourself and enter a calm headspace. After exploring, visit the Coastguard Cottages Tea Room, located on-site. Here, you can enjoy a hot cuppa of tea while you take in the cosy atmosphere and scenic views.
If you’re after a peaceful, dog-friendly walk, head to Walberswick Marshes, which offer a calming escape with well-trodden paths that meander through reed beds and over open heathland. It's the perfect route for unwinding as you soak up the enduring natural landscape. Your dog will love exploring the wide-open spaces as well as all the sniffs and smells, and you'll leave feeling renewed and the good type of tired.
Running

Whether you are a casual jogger or a seasoned runner, there are many fantastically scenic locations to blow away the cobwebs and enhance your health and wellness.
The Aldeburgh to Thorpeness Coastal Path is a scenic route which takes you from the charming town of Aldeburgh to the quirky village of Thorpeness, with beautiful sea views along the way. The well-maintained path runs along the approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) each way stretch, making it a perfect out-and-back run for those looking for a coastal workout.
For the novelty of a riverside run, head to the historic village of Orford. Start near the Quay and enjoy the peaceful views of the River Ore as you follow the trails through the surrounding countryside.The gentle terrain and tranquil setting make it perfect for a mindful, health-focused run in new surroundings.
The grand Felixstowe promenade provides a flat, paved path perfect for runners of all levels. Stretching along the seafront, this route ensures you get lungs full of fresh sea air, and can take in the lovely views, making it a delightful spot for an early morning or evening run. Afterward, reward yourself with a coffee or light bite at The Alex Café Bar & Brasserie, located right by the promenade.
In addition to these routes, the Suffolk Coast hosts several organised runs throughout the year, such as the Lowestoft Parkrun, a free, weekly 5K event held along the seafront and the Felixstowe Coastal 10 Mile, an annual race offering breathtaking views along the coastline. Cycling
Cycling on the Suffolk Coast is a great way to take in scenic routes whilst working up and sweat and having a full body workout. One excellent path is the Sandlings Cycle Route, which meanders through the countryside near Aldeburgh, providing you with picturesque views of the Suffolk Coast on two wheels.
If you want something a little more challenging the Regional Cycle Route 41 is a popular choice. This route stretches from Snape to Bramfield, passing through charming villages such as Friston and Knodishall. Cyclists can enjoy varied terrains, including coastal paths and rural roads, all while taking in the natural beauty of the area. The route also takes you past the historic village of Dunwich and the RSPB Minsmere Nature Reserve.

Cold Water Swimming

Make sure you acclimatise your body to the water by gradually building up your exposure, never swim alone and consider getting a wetsuit and gloves to protect you from the cold.
Situated alongside the River Waveney, Beccles Lido is a traditional outdoor swimming pool that remains open for winter lane swimming on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays until March. The pool temperature is maintained between 12-15°C, providing a controlled environment for cold water swimming enthusiasts.
As the UK's most easterly point, Lowestoft Beach offers bracing North Sea waters ideal for an invigorating swim. The expansive sandy beach provides ample space for swimmers to safely enjoy the cold waters. There is a group of cold water swimming enthusiasts that meet most mornings to dip together.
Felixstowe's North Beach, backed by the promenade and the beautiful Seafront Gardens, is a popular spot for swimmers. The quieter stretch of beach offers privacy and a relaxing spot to immerse yourself in the cold, calm water.
Yoga

Stretch yourself this year and try out yoga or pilates at a location on The Suffolk Coast. The benefits are plentiful and moving and lengthening your body can significantly enhance your health and wellness while you relax and unwind.
