Dunwich & Minsmere Circuit
Time: 3 hours
Distance: 13 miles / 21km
Terrain: Minor roads and tracks
The route commences at Dunwich, and if you're planning an early start, breakfast at The Ship is sure to set you up for the ride. Serving traditional breakfast including local Blythburgh pork sausages, eggs, kippers and freshly made omelettes, the perfect way to start the day! Upon arrival at the picturesque village of Westleton, pop into The Westleton Crown for a pot of tea or lunch, before heading on to RSPB Minsmere to spot some of the UK's rarest wildlife. Carrying on to Greyfriars Priory, sit amongst the ruins for a perfect picnic spot, or continue back to Dunwich where a dip in the sea and an ice cream at the cafe on the beach is the perfect way to end the day's activity.
Snape to Orford Circuit
Time: 3.5 hours
Distance: 24 miles / 39km
Terrain: Minor roads
This section of the route follows the well-signposted Suffolk Coastal Cycle Route 41. Starting from Snape Maltings, turn left and bear left toward Orford. Follow this road, taking the first left to Iken. Visit Iken Church, retrace your path, and continue towards Orford, ignoring all exits until the signpost. Head to Orford, turning left and then right at junctions, and continue to the quay. Visit the historic Castle and follow the road past the Crown and Castle Hotel (call ahead and order a delicious Picnic Hamper) before making your return to Snape Maltings or Wickham Market Station by retracing the route.
Rendlesham Forest & Shingle Street
Time: 3 hours / 5 hours
Distance: 12.5 miles / 20km or 27.5m / 44.5km
Terrain: Minor roads, B roads, tracks and bridleways
Take a trip from the natural to the supernatural! Rendlesham Forest was the setting for the UK’s most famous UFO incident, whilst the coast at Shingle Street is a great place for wildlife. If you have time, learn about Suffolk’s very own breed of horse at the Suffolk Punch Trust.
Woodbridge to Waldringfield
Distance: 15 miles / 24km
Time: 3 hours (if stopping along the way)
Terrain: Minor roads and busy roads (some with 60 mph speed limits)
This cycle ride links the historic town of Woodbridge with the pretty riverside village of Waldringfield. Highlights along the way include Newbourne Spring Nature Reserve, Woodbridge's historic Market Hill and spectacular views of the River Deben.
